چکیده
Received November 2007 Accepted March 2008 INTRODUCTION In 1964, Pfeiffer described an acrocephalosyndactyly syndrome consisting of bicoronal craniosynostosis, midface hypoplasia, broad thumbs, broad big toes, and partial and variable soft-tissue syndactyly of the hands and feet.(1) Autosomal dominant inheritance with complete penetrance is the main characteristic despite variable expressivity related to the presence or absence of syndactyly and its degree of severity. Based on the severity of the phenotype, Cohen proposed a classification of Pfeiffer syndrome into 3 clinical subtypes.(2) We report, a case of Pfeiffer syndrome type 2 with high-grade bilateral vesicoureteral reflux (VUR), and discuss the importance of surveillance for urogenital problems in patients with this syndrome.

Distal Renal Tubular Acidosis with Grade 4 Vesicoureteral Reflux in a Child with Single Kidney
Introduction Renal tubular acidosis (RTA) is a non-uremic defects of urinary acidification. It is characterized by a normal anion gap hyperchloremic metabolic acidosis; plasma potassium may be normal, low or high-depending on the type of RTA. These syndromes differ from uremic acidosis which is associated with a high anion gap, decreased glomerular filtration with enhanced proton secretion b...
متن کاملProcalcitonin as a predictor of vesicoureteral reflux in children with a first febrile urinary tract infection.
OBJECTIVE A first febrile urinary tract infection leads to the diagnosis of vesicoureteral reflux in 20% to 40% of children. Systematic voiding cystourethrography then is recommended. However, for 60% to 80% of the children, voiding cystourethrography is a posteriori normal. Moreover, it is irradiating, painful, and expensive. Thus, selective approaches are needed. Because procalcitonin has bee...
متن کاملThe value of ultrasound in diagnosing vesicoureteral reflux in young children with urinary tract infection.
Urinary tract infection is a common pediatric problem and vesicoureteral reflux is its most common complication. Detection of this reflux has classically been achieved by voiding cystouretrography (VCUG). Ultrasonography for evaluation of vesicoureteral reflux is shown to be feasible but is not widely accepted. Our aim was to assess the value of routine sonography in detecting vesicoureteral re...
متن کاملFibronectin in reflux nephropathy Is it a marker of reflux grade?
Background and Objective: Vesicoureteral reflux (VUR) is one of the most common urinary tract abnormalities in patients with urinary tract infection. Nowadays noninvasive diagnostic methods are suggested to recognize VUR and its severity. Methods: We measured urinary and serum fibronectin in 51 children with VUR. Results: The mean serum fibronectin was 318.3±112.1 in chi...
متن کامل[Primary vesicoureteral reflux: conservative therapy or surgical intervention].
INTRODUCTION The relationship between urinary tract infections and primary vesicoureteral reflux may lead to permanent renal damage. In the literature an increasing number of spontaneous cure of vesicoureteral reflux in children and the significant decrease in surgical therapy has been observed. OBJECTIVE To study the evolution of primary vesicoureteral reflux associated with recurring urinar...
